  • The success rates and best way to reach the summit prospects
  • The opportunity of additional days for a safer extended acclimatisation on each trekking route

KILIMANJARO ROUTES ARE DIVIDED IN SIX ROUTES

The Marangu Route

Also known as the “Coca Cola route –   The Marangu route is one of the most popular routes and most of hikers believe that the Marangu route is the easiest route to Uhuru peak, because it is route which can be hiked in 5 days. (Cheapest option).

It is also the only route offering accommodation on the mountain in huts. Hike on the Marangu route is comparatively cheap. You don’t need camping equipment and not cost for extra porters to carry the equipment.

It is unfortunately well known that you cannot make the 5 days Marangu route to the summit. Five days climb doesn’t allow for hikers to acclimation, we strongly recommended to hiking the route over 6 days, to have chance to reach to the summit

The Machame Route

The Machame Route is our most popular and successful route to reach the summit of Kilimanjaro. Even though the route is more difficult than Marangu route, the main reason is making this route to be difficult, because it is more strenuous, the trail is often steeper and involves several ups and down and crossing.

Hikers sleep in tents which are carried up the mountain by porters. Machame route is a very attractive and beautiful route, hikers can complete in 6 days, but we strongly recommend hiking the route in 7 days, for allowing them to acclimatise. The success the Machame Route is its topography, permitting hikers to climb high and sleep low, helping them to acclimatization better.

There are however two disadvantages on this route:

  • First of all, hikers will need to hike the Barranco wall and Shira ridge, both of which are physically demanding and most of hiker’s fear of the heights.
  • This Route is more crowded.

The Umbwe route

The Umbwe route is most demanding and difficult route compared to all Kilimanjaro routes. The parts of the trail on the first day are steep and second day is also steep and uphill.

This route doesn’t provide chance to acclimatization and chance to reach the summit is very low.  This route should be good for stronger hikers who are confident in their capability to acclimatize quickly to altitude.

The Shira Route

The Shira Route Plateau is one of the loveliest areas on Kilimanjaro. When the weather conditions are good you can be driven by 4×4 car, to within a ½ hours walk of Shira hut (4000m).

Through driving is very enormous and you can see some lovely view of Mt Meru and Great Rift Valley. The Shira route is good for hikers who are already acclimatized to 4000m.

The Rongai Route

The Rongai is the only route that ascents Kilimanjaro from the north-eastern side of the mountain, close to the Kenyan border. Rongai Route is one of the quietest routes on the mountain and long travel time.

The Rongai route has less scenic, but you still have change to enjoy wildlife on Kilimanjaro. We recommend Rongai as a seven-day group climb or a six or seven private climb.

The Lemosho Route

The Lemosho Route is a very attractive and perfect route, and you have good chance of wild game viewing within the forest.

The only problem of the Lemosho on the 3rd day of hike you will cross with the other group through the Machame route. If you want to be away from the crowd the Lemosho is recommendable and the Lemosho Route is not recommended during the rainy season.
