The Eastern Arc Mountain and the Tanzania-Malawi Endemic Bird Area

From north eastern edge to Southern western Edge then take Pare Mountain ranges and Usumbara in the north, Udzungwa and Mahenge in South are the oldest in East Africa and home of some the greatest endemic biodiversity in the world. Udzungwa National Park which is located in north of Selous Game (current Nyerere National Park) in southern of Tanzania. It is home to many of the country’s main endemic species the Park.

Birding in the north of Tanzania

The main National parks of Seregenti, Lake Manyara and Tarangire are incredibly good for large raptors and scavengers.

Momella Lakes

The Momella Lakes are Located in the North of Arusha National Park. 

You can find commonly species include flamingo, pelican, little grebe, and many of herons, ducks and waders are also common. The lakes are fed by underground flow and are a mecca for water birds in particular

Lake Natron

Lake Natron is one of the famous Rift Valley Lake and lies to the north of Ngorongoro Crater and bordering with Kenya. The Lake Natron region is inhospitable or caustic waters and parched earth is main birthplace for East Africa’s 2.5 million or so smaller flamingo who are gathering here during August and September.

Rubond Island – located in the south-western corner of Lake Victoria, Tanzania. The Island is an off forgotten corner of Tanzania and now is becoming more developed. The Island has many great features, and it is forested and freshwater habitats, it is extremely popular for bird species of all kinds.

Birding in the south of Tanzania

The Northern parks of Tanzania are superb birding destinations like Nyerere National Parks (former Selous Game Reserve), Udzungwa National Parks and Ruaha National Park. Kindly find short information on Nyerere National Park and other destination. Nyerere National Park (Former Selous Game Reserve), there are nice camps and lodge in the Park and outside the park located adjacent the winding Rufiji River. 

The Park has gorgeous number of bird species ranging from the fish eagle to malachite kingfisher and the secretary bird. Amani Nature Reserve – is on the Eastern Arc Mountains. The Nature Reserve of Amani is most likely one of exciting and available areas for birding in southern Tanzania.
